Swiss-Design Hammer Mill for Pharmaceutical Production

Why Standard Hammer Mills Fail in Pharmaceutical Production

Most industrial hammer mills are built for general chemicals or food processing. When applied to pharmaceutical manufacturing, they create four costly problems:

  • Inconsistent PSD — Wide particle size distribution forces extra sieving steps and lowers batch yield
  • Heat degradation — Excessive frictional heat damages heat-sensitive APIs and loses active potency
  • Cross-contamination risk — Poor surface finish, dead zones, and difficult disassembly fail GMP audits
  • High total cost — Premium European mills carry 3–5x price tags and 12+ week lead times

Our Frewitt-pattern hammer mill solves all four.

Hammer Mill with Proven Swiss Milling Geometry

Our pharmaceutical hammer mill is engineered around the same high-energy impact principle found in Frewitt FlexMill HW-series machines. A precision-balanced rotor with interchangeable hammers accelerates product against a perforated sieve ring, producing sharp, narrow particle size distributions from coarse granulation down to fine micronization.

The modular milling head design allows fast sieve and rotor changes, full disassembly for cleaning, and compatibility with upstream feeding and downstream dust collection systems. Every unit is built to cGMP standards and validated for pharmaceutical batch production.

8 CORE ADVANTAGES OF FREWITT-DESIGN STRUCTURE

Precision Particle Size Control (Down to 30 µm)

The rotor-stator impact geometry generates uniform high-shear energy, producing D90 values as fine as 30 µm with a tight distribution curve. Adjustable rotor speed (3,000–9,000 rpm) and interchangeable sieve meshes give you full control over final particle size across APIs, excipients, and crystalline materials.

Low-Temperature Milling for Heat-Sensitive APIs

Rapid single-pass size reduction minimizes dwell time, keeping product temperature rise below 5–8 °C under normal operating conditions. Optional water-jacketed milling chamber and cryogenic feed modules extend capability to the most thermally fragile active ingredients.

Full GMP & FDA Compliance

All product-contact surfaces are manufactured from AISI 316L stainless steel electropolished to Ra ≤ 0.8 µm, with no crevices, dead legs, or trapped product zones. FDA-approved EPDM/PTFE gaskets, tool-free disassembly, and WIP (Wash-in-Place) capability support full cleaning validation protocols.

Modular Quick-Change Design

The entire milling head — rotor, sieve, and chamber — disassembles in under 10 minutes without special tools. Screens, hammer types, and rotor configurations swap rapidly for product changeover, reducing downtime between batches.

High Throughput, Compact Footprint

Capacities range from 50 kg/h (lab/pilot scale) up to 2,000 kg/h (full production). Vertical in-line flow design maximizes throughput per square meter of floor space, making integration into existing process lines straightforward.

Built-In Process Safety

Safety interlocks on inlet hopper and front access door prevent operation during disassembly. Optional ATEX Zone 20/21 certification and inert gas purging systems are available for flammable or dust-explosive products.

Scalable from Lab to Production

Identical milling geometry across lab, pilot, and production models ensures direct scale-up without redeveloping process parameters. Batch results from R&D transfer reliably to full-scale manufacturing.

60–70% Lower Cost vs. Original European Mills

You get equivalent performance, same material standards, and identical particle results — at roughly one-third the price of a comparable Frewitt machine. Shorter lead times (4–6 weeks) and local spare parts supply reduce your total cost of ownership.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Is this an official Frewitt machine?

A: No. It is an independently engineered hammer mill built on the same impact-milling geometry and material standards. It is not manufactured, sold, or warranted by Frewitt SA. Particle size performance is comparable for most pharmaceutical applications.

Q: Can you match my existing Frewitt mill results?

A: Yes. In most cases we can match PSD curves within acceptable tolerance. We recommend sending a material sample for comparative testing before purchase.

Q: Do you provide IQ/OQ validation documentation?

A: Yes. Every pharmaceutical-grade mill ships with a complete documentation package including material certificates, surface finish reports, FAT protocols, and IQ/OQ templates to support your site validation.

Q: What is the warranty and after-sales support?

A: 12-month factory warranty on all parts. Spare parts (rotors, screens, seals, bearings) are stocked and ship within 3–5 working days worldwide. Remote technical support is available in English.

Q: Can the mill be integrated with our existing process line?

A: Yes. We offer custom inlet/outlet flanges, vacuum conveying interfaces, rotary valve feeders, and dust collection packages to match your existing layout.
